Everyone who knows me - knows I'm a mad cricket fan, today we had tragic news. Our wonderful South Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes has died aged 25 - due to being hit by a bouncer at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday. To say the cricket world is upset is of course an understatement. Please pray for Sean Abbott the cricket player from New South Wales team who actually bowled the bouncer. A sad day for all of us Australians. RIP. Love Chris

It is dreadful news - my thoughts are with the bowler. He will carry this burden for the rest of his life.

That is so true Sue, and it was just a tragic accident. There was no animosity in the throw, just a 1 in 10,000,000 chance apparently. I think the Australian Cricket Board will be rethinking the helmet that our cricketers wear. Love Chris
Apparently the ball hit below the level of the helmet. A redesigned helmet to cover this area would restrict movement, I think.

Very sad news, and so young. My thoughts are with his family, and with the bowler, who will carry this for the rest of his life.

He was a rising star and was such a great Aussie bloke, everyone loved him. You are right about Sean, he is grief-stricken. Love Chris

Thought of you when I heard the news a couple of hours ago. It is a tragedy. There has been a lot about the accident on the UK news

Thanks Caroline, yes, it's a real tragedy. He not only played for NSW and Australia but also the English counties Hampshire, Middlesex and Worcestershire. He also played for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, and for the Strikers and South Australia when he moved to Adelaide in 2012. A young life cut off too short. Love Chris
This tragic accident is the discussion on the radio this morning but as I am off out I will not hear it.

Yes, it's just so sad. I keep thinking about his last day, he just wouldn't have seen it coming. Of course, no-one knows the day they are going to die, but to go like that so suddenly with no warning is hard to deal with. I pray that the families concerned will get through this tragedy. Love Chris

Thanks Sarah, well, you know how I feel about our beloved cricket - it's almost an institution in the Australian summer. Football (Australian Rules Football) for the winter - cricket for the summer! Love Chris

Thanks Susie, too young, and what an absolutely freakish accident. They are saying it's like one chance in ten million that this would occur. Love Chris

This is so very sad, I read about it earlier today. It's always so very hard for the family one someone is lost so suddenly and so young - they must be absolutely devastated.

Yes, the family were too devastated to speak on television. Michael Clarke our Captain of the Australian Cricket team read out the families words and he then got up straight away and walked out, visibly shaken. It's tragic. Love Chris
