Hi, I've been asked to hand-embroider a design onto a soft polyester microfiber towel as a Christmas gift. What type of thread should I use? Polyester (so it doesn't shrink) or cotton? The towel is actually a pillow case for a bath pillow, so it will get very wet and dry off from time to time. Also, I have an embroidery hoop, but can I do without an additional stabilizer? (I would probably have to order it online and I'd rather not risk waiting for it to ship a week or so before I can get started!) Thanks for any help.

If you are hand embroidering a stabilizer isn't necessary, as you can adjust the tightness of your stitches as you go. Stabilizer is used in embroidery machines to take care of the back and forth pull of the machine putting stitches into the fabric you are embroidering onto. Since the towel will be washed frequently, I'd be sure and tell my customer that I would need to wash it prior to embroidering due to any shrinkage that may occur. Since the towel is polyester, I'd use polyester thread. Just my opinion.

Can you get polyester thread for hand embroidery? If so it might be the right option. Otherwise I would use cotton.

I would use Poly. I did some designs with Rayon and I find they fade with washings.... With Poly they stay bright for a long time. Suzanne

I would do a cross stitch on my sewing machine and noone will know the difference .I have fooled the best lol Yorikos site has some awesome cross stitch also go see the 4 towels i just did they look hand done,just ask my neighbor lol hugs
