1-2-15 Good morning Cuties, I have an intention of making my husband a special quilt for our 50th wedding anniversary. I have about 4 years to make it, but I would like to get started on it, as soon as possible. I haven't decided on the theme. I think he would like deer/animal or hunting designs, since that is an interest of his. If it was for me,I would like something that would relate though the 50 years. Maybe I sould make us both one-lol- Any ideas?

Well as you are making something to celebrate your 50th - Golden Wedding anniversary I would choose designs that suit both of you unless your husband is going to use it on his hunting trips. Right I now look forwards to others giving you their comments. you have plenty of time to plan this idea so good luck as its a super idea

No, he doesn't have to take it with him, set up is nice. I like animals as well, but I need to start collecting some nice designs, if I decide to do that. I too, am anxious to read other thoughts. Thanks

What about something like the pic below? Photos of the past 50 years, black and white with your anniversary dates and a few special dates embroidered on it under photos?

This is gorgeous and great keepsake...I would have to do 3 so when we are gone each child would get one-lol- Some of our first ones are old Polaroids and some are colored, does it matter and how is this done? If it's on a printer, what do you print it on and the color not come off in the wash? ...I remember now, a Cutie just did her g-daughters with photos....

The photo quilt idea is excellent, or you could do the photos on one side a double wedding ring on the other.

Now, thank goodness I have a wedding ring quilt (you must think I am good!-lol). Didn't take too many, and not too many together, when we were young. Had to take each other and then cost so much for developing.-lol

I would mix it up with both your stuff, his stuff and couple stuff. And photos (when you learn how to do that) and embroidered designs that depict your interests as individuals and as a couple.
And don't forget your combined adventures with children and grandchildren or maybe that can be another quilt?!?!

lol-maybe I should do one for each year, as over the years I have more photos. Didn't have many at the start of the marriage.

For our 50th wedding anniversary my daughter made us a quilt with photos from our wedding, honeymoon and thru the years. What a wonderful keepsake it is. It brought back lots of memories. Hugs, Mary

You could always make a family tree quilt...a picture of you and your husband, at the base for the roots, one on a date or prom set on top, another of you after engagement, then the wedding (all in the shape of a tree trunk) as the kids came they start the branches, add their spouses, then the grand kids and so on until you have built a tree like a mighty oak...with the foundation of you and your husband. Pictures would work or just names and date of important events birth, graduations, weddings etc. You'll come up with a cracker jack idea as resourceful as you are!

I actually saw one, something like this. It was appliqued emb a huge tree and braches. The leaves had names and dates of births from the marriage and g-kids. It had large app flowers all around making the border. Beautiful! I could go back and take a photo of it, I have been to this ladies house before. My husband knows her husband and when I found we had like interest, I wanted to go with my husband to meet her. It happens that her sister actually made this quilt for their 50th anniversary. Her sis lives in another state, but I would love to talk to her about how this was done.

Toogie, if you go to a John Deer event, he WAS giving away a photo-stitch software, and selling one that did all the pyrotechnics. I thought the freebie was sufficient for anything I'd ever want!

Hi Toogie, why not make a double sided quilt? I did this for one of my quilts and that way you can have yours, his and yours together. You can incorporate all the things that you both love, your family and hobbies etc. Good luck with whatever you do. Love Chris

Hi Toggie: I did one for my GrandDaugther's graduation,with all her school pictures. I use the photo transfer sheets called Printed Treasures. You need an inkjet printer, but very easy to do. You can buy it on line or at Jo-Anne's.

It's on sale now too! Did you use your home printer or go to a shop and print them? I wonder how well it holds up to washing. Your quilt, is the one I remembered, in my post to nonna57sdaughter1 below. I remembered it because it was such a loving gift to do.
Yes I used my home printer. I have heard that it does stand up well to washing, but like everything else, it will wear with time. This quilt is a keepsake, so won't be washed that often.

Hi Toogie thought I'd put my 2c worth in.. I like the idea that Chris had a his and hers sided quilt.. His during hunting season and your for the rest of the year.. as to who gets it in abut 50 or 60yrs time put their names in a hat and draw the lucky guardian.. Marian

My grandmother did one of states and the state flower. It was actually a spread. It is pink and white and I don't think it had a backing. I actually have it. I should get it down and show you. She was born in 1889 and loved to quilt. The day she gave birth to my mom, there was a man hung at the courthouse. If I remember,I think my grandmother said he was the last hanging here. Maybe not the best thing to have happen on your birth date...
