Help with Embroidery Files Backup on an external hard drive..Got a Seagate 1.5T external hard drive...read the directions, plugged it in and selected "Continuous" backup...it backed up all my files (finally..took about 10 hours)...I got up next morning...signed in to my computer and it started up again...but it only gets to 8% on the "continuous" back up...it says it is suppose to update file information as soon as something is added...but it doesn't seem to be working...Help here..no clue...waiting until Monday so I can call Seagate for some support...any info would be appreciated...Thanks, Cuties.

Wish I could help -but I have never had any luck with this type of software (different brands too). I just my backups manually now (and depending on how much you are backing up it can be very slow - I have to turn off the automatic sleep on my computer for it to finish). Hope you get some good answers.

I can't help you either, but I will be interested in comments. I too have a Seagate and it should have been automatic BUT....it sloooooows down my computer so now I try to do manual back up at night at least once a month. I am not happy with Seagate but afraid not to have a back up. Gotta be a better way.!

Have you tried disconnecting the hard drive, then shutting down your computer? Sometimes I have to restart my computer when I use my external hard drive.

No, not yet...It is disconnected now and I haven't plugged in back in yet...waiting to see if I got any good advice here first...scary!

Okay, so I just plugged it back in and...it shows up like a USB stick would...but it is not doing anything...and I don't know how to get to the Home or Menu options...

Sorry that I wasn't any help. My hard drive didn't connect good once and all the files showed empty. I was so upset! I shut it all down and started again and it was like nothing had happened...they were back from where ever they went. You may just have a bad hard drive. I am sure they will be able to help you Monday when you call. So glad you haven't lost your designs.

This is just my two cents worth...If you've done the 10 hour backup, this is all files. Okay if you are in continuous backup mode...the only files at this point to get backed up will be those files that you have modified. Therefore you wouldn't see a long length of time or a large percentage of backup time, again unless did a backup of all files again.

That is what I thought, too, but when I go and look at the files on the Seagate drive...none of the "new" additions are there...just the original back up files...the new files are not getting added..

Well shows ya mine wasn't even worth two cents...lol.

Why I use carbonite. I just call them and they take care of it.

Ah...yes, but then you have to continually pay them for the service...not sure how much that is...perhaps I need to check it out...

Carbonite is good but can be a "drag" on your internet and computer systems. I would not use this service as my only backup plan.

See if any of the information in this link will help you. You should make sure your computer files you actually want are being backed up.

Hmmm, link came up punky...and yes, the files that have been backed up are the correct ones...
by dragonflyer 03 Jan 2015
Okay, the files that are in my C: drive all copied to the hard drive...but the ones that are in My PC (like my documents, music, etc) did not...not sure why...

Sorry about the link...I will try to help you if I can. I might be a while though...my phone does not make things easy here.

Well, this is exactly what I did...but something is wrong with the ongoing back up function...and it didn't copy my photos or music on the first total backup...I guess I will just have to call them on Monday...do you have an external hard drive?

I never take the defaults on any backup as they never seem to include my designs. I is very frustrating.
I work with external hard-drives...but I always recommend people have their data in at least 3 places.
