If a design is digitised especially and the digitiser paid eg a logo who does the design belong to the organisation or the place where the design is stitched out? Thanks for reading and replying. I have edited this post as I don't think I was very clear with my original comments so hope this makes more sense

We have had shirts digitized with logo's for years and they also did the shirts. We have been told that they are the owners of the designs.

Our logo is ours (we paid to have it created) and we paid a shop to digitize it for us. They say it is ours.

It sounds like a murky area to me. Probably, it would be best to ask upfront what the digitizers consider to be the owners of.

Art and logo are not the same. The logo exclusively belongs to the associated organization. However, the art may belong to the artist (who cannot use the logo in any form without the owner's expressed consent.) The shop may consider all art to be theirs in the same way a photographic shop would consider all photographs to be theirs
unless otherwise agreed upon. Consider offering the shop a small fee to transfer the logo to you in a format appropriate for your use. Check your original contract for details and clarification of art ownership.
