I never shut mine up it's always left open. Don't know anything about the engineering of them but this is the first time I've heard of your problem. Hope you find an answer. Jo

Mine cracked for a time, than I only got a picture if I opened it not further then a certain angle, that angle got smaller and smaller, now my laptop is connected to an old monitor. Makes it less handy to take with you :-(. Flower for you.

Mine creaked, not an actual crack. Don't dare use a lubricant though and that might be too late anyhow.
Thanxs Mop. I guess I will just have to deal with it *4U ;)

Sounds like U have problems Monica, sorry. I have never had any problems with my laptop but the only time it is shut is when I take it on trips. It's always open & right beside the embroidery machine. My desktop is pretty ;much used for everything else. hope U get things fixed up *4U

Remember when I spilled the glass of wine on mine. They are non drinkers for sure. Had to replace the key board. My sweetie's son performed the operation and said something " sticky" was under key board. I never told him what it was.

I have an ancient Compaq (it has a 386 processor !)that's still in one piece but the new ones are not as tough. I love Toshibas, I have had several over the past decade and a half that have held up very well, I still have one that is about 10 years old or better that looks like new. I have a newer HP that I use now. The hinges are tough looking but if you put anything on top of it when it was closed, like most new ones, it would destroy the screen. Some of the newer ones by Sony and Apple are skinnier but more also more fragile. They have sacrificed tough for looks and light weight. There are laptops built with really tough cases like they use for the military or for the police department. They are heavier built but you would pay a lot more for that. Just stick with a major name brand. The price you pay is sometimes worth it. Pick it up. If it seems a bit heavy to hold in one hand it is probably made of something more substantial than just plastic! Good Luck!
