Wasn't sure what to put this under, so here goes.
A while ago I had shown a set of towels a lady asked for for giving to other members of her team that were bowling in a tournament. She was not happy with what I charged her - she sews so knows how much effort is put into some things. She was quite annoyed about it, but paid.
Well, I have seen her a couple times now since the tournament and this last time, she had a complette turn around and let me know how much her team members liked the towels and were showing them off and said that I should have made a bunch more and she would have been able to sell them all for me!
She even commented on towels someone else had done up but not with embroidery and she felt they would not withstand more than a couple of washes where mine would be going for a long time!

Some of the others, may have paid for embroidered items before, and told her what a 'deal' she got from you. That's what probably made her 'happy' again. Just my thought anyway.

Thanks. I think she found out what some of them paid for the towels that were done up without embroidery that she thought was inferior to what I did.

Lady next time she askes you to do something for her put the darn price a couple of dollars. and make it wrth your while doing them and yes do a few extra and tell her to let you have the names of those who would like more and get the conntacts yourself.

At time people are just stupid. Then they might wise up. However, I would not make more for her to sell unless she prepays. Once burned, you learn. Good luck.

Thanks. She did pay, she just figured it was too much. But being at the tournament did a world of good as she found out different.

Finally she realized your work was very good. People don't know the time it takes to embroider an article and the cost of your machine. I just give a price and sometimes a sample of what it will look like. If I get the job, great. If not,they can go and price it elsewhere.
I have even had them come crawling back, because they did get it done elsewhere and didn't like the job they did.

Yes, that's what I was hoping on my last job. The lady wanted monograms on sweatshirts, I gave her a price she was happy with, then she came back and wanted to change to those really big letters. I told her that would be more and I was secretly hoping she would go elsewhere. I only have a 5x7 hoop so I knew I was going to have to hoop multiple times, which is a pain!! She rolled her eyes and said "whatever." She was VERY pleased with the results, so guess in the end it was worth it to her.
Yes, it was really great to have her realize the value she actually got and was now very happy with it.

I've learned embroidery is a bigger challenge than sewing. My daughter learned the same way. Both of my girls were always saying to me.....how hard can it be? I'm glad this woman woke up.. you should ask her to write a referral or some type of letter for you to show new customers..

I find there are more variables in embroidery than sewing. although if you do things the way I always have - I make my own patterns - self taught. Never had luck with bought ones.lol.

Maybe it was an attempt to get you to decrease the price at the time. I am glad you didn't do that. Mostly I find people who do craft themselves are aware of what goes into it. I have sometimes had people tell me I am not charging enough.

I actually have one that tells me that. She had me make something for her and she decided how much she was going to pay - which was double what I had thought to charge her! And then also did a couple of towels for her and same thing! She was so happy with them she had a few tears escape!
ah now clients like that make is so worth the trouble!

Sure, not that hard, the machine does all the work. Ha! They don't understand the effort to find or digitize just the right design, maybe resize it, maybe add other elements, lettering, select the colors, get the right stabilizer, hoop everything and align the design. Have the right needle, make sure the tension is correct and don't forget all the work to maintain the machine in good working order. Still, with all that diligence, the machine can decide to throw a hissy fit in the middle of your stitching.

well said plus the cost of your supplies too We spend forever trying threads out to discover which one works the best for our machines! Some people take a little longer to realize what is involved & come to appreciate it but others never do

Hmmm, if you settled on a price up front...and she thought it was to much, why did she give you the go ahead to make the rest of them?? I would hope that you secured at least a 50% deposit before you proceeded to make her order...and I would have expected her to sign off on the sample towel as acceptable....and pay the balance at the time of delivery...pretty standard practices.

I had tried to tell her how much it would be per towel but she just brushed me off. I didn't do a sample as she had seen the ones I had done for my hubbies tournament kids and she loved them and asked for the same design but of course with the different tounament info and persons names.
I haven't done much for others as yet - it's just a little her and there for now. Most of what I do is for family and others see that.

They did! lol - it took going to the tournament and giving the towels to the team members and seeing their reaction and their showing them off to everyone else!

Perhaps she had something bad happen before she met up with you that day....it may have soured her momentarily. Time went by and all was past so she probably wasn't really focused on the price as what went on beforehand...At least that would be a good reason for her conduct.
