I know I have seen some beautiful napkins that Cuties have done here on Cute. My daughter asked me to monogram just a G, on eight napkins. What I want to know is, what size font to use and where do I place it? She wants to give them as a wedding gift Saturday. I would like a pretty G, since there will be no other embroidery. Thanks for any info or advice-Toogie

I put them in the corner on point. As to size...whatever you like! I usually use between 1 1/2 to 2" but see if you want it larger. Post a pic!

Are the ones you have embroidered posted on Cute? I would like to see. I will post a photo when I am done..you know me, I love photos.
Sonia Showalter has a free napkin placement on her site, It. is just a V but I have used it so many times. I like about a 2 inch letter or monogram in a corner of the napkin. good luck to you. Kay

Hi Toogie, I would ask your daughter to be a bit more specific as to what SHE wants....... I can see potential problems if she has something in her mind and you create something entirely different.
On handkerchiefs it is usually done in the corner but on napkins you have several options
in one corner
centred on one edge (so you can fold the napkin in half then fold over in thirds)
or just plain centred in the centre
If you would like a pretty G and have something in mind but can't find it, just PM me and I will digitise one for you, even one you hand draw.

Thank you for your generous offer, and I will take you up on it, as I am sure I don't have anything suitable. I will contact her after church today. I never thought about it really. I realize now, it is in the way you intend to fold the napkin, just never thought about it. I'll get back to you as soon as I find out so what here or for a PM......Really, you can just write out a letter and digitize it? I need to learn more about digitizing, but you know what they say about old dogs.-lol-can't teach an old dog new tricks.

That only applies to old dogs, not to old humans :)

Thanks mops. I know I dl your placement line that you did but what folder, I am unsure. ..I have been looking... It may have been for hankies , though, I can't remember.

I found it! It's for a hankie but a square is a square, right. I'm using it.

hi I embroidered several napkins already and put the monogram in the edge. I used a vintage look design from needle passion - size about 8 cm, white yarn. the napkins look very elegant.

Well, Meganne to the rescue...also, Toogie...Katule has done a ton of napkins....perhaps you can show your daughter some and she can get an idea of what some look like to help in the decision...

I knew Katulle was the 'Queen" of napkins. I would like some of hers, but I think this couple just like something a little more simple, not too elegant. Daughter said whatever I come up with will be fine...we will see :)

I, myself would love any of these, but this couple have more simple taste. ..Sigh... I still would like it to be pretty, even if it IS just a one color G they want !
mops if using just an initial in the corner, what size would look good, when folding like Katulle's?
I like the size and shape of the Goldfont, have a look at the G http://www.cuteembroidery.com/759474_letter.html It is simple, elegant and stitches out beautifully.
I think I may have that, I'll see. Katydid said Sonia Showalter has a napkin placement so I'll check that out too. Thanks mops, I may not have to bother Meg afterall.

You already have a huge amount of response here, but I would check through all your prettiest fonts without artwork attached and pick the very prettiest G. Might help to print them out to compare. I usually pick the font based on only the letter(s) I am using. What about thread color? Maybe bride's mom could advise you.

The thread color I do know. Napkins are neutral color and lettering will be brown. My daughter and I like Katulle's for ourselves, but different people have different taste. They like simple.
