I don't know the answer to this very good question. I don't use the colors given a lot of the time. I pick my own as that makes the design a little bit more mine. I too will look forward to the answers on this.

You should download or print the color charts from whichever site you obtained the designs.

I use sewwhat pro to show me the colors and change them to suit my taste. Hope this helps you toogie :)

oh my Toogie, I would also say its part of the design so no sharing, but I have never used a colour chart myself , I like to choose my own colours from the stash that I have lol

Toogie, I have rarely downloaded color charts. Often I do not like the colors shown, and go with colors that are more liking to my taste. It does simplify things to have the color chart, if needed, though!

If you saved that file in other formats than the one you need, try opening another format and see if the colors look better to you and if they do then make note of the colors and OR if you only saved the file format you need for your machine try opening it in your software and saving it as another file format and then open it and see if that helps. You may have to try different formats to see which looks best to you. I have used this method before to help me with designs with lots of color changes. But mostly I just use whatever colors I want or play around with changing them in my software to see what looks good. Hope this will help you!

A lot of sites, but not all, make their colour charts freely available to anyone who visits their web site; often you don't even need to log in - all you need to do is search their site for the design number, but there are so many machine embroidery sites these days you couldn't search every one - you really need to find out where the design came from first, then you might find the colour chart for it.<br /><br />
Whenever I download a design I always try to add a note to the design name about where it came from and I use Internet Explorer to go to the colour-chart page and, if that page does not have a button on it to save it as a pdf file then, from the Internet Explorer toolbar, select "save page as" or "save file as", depending on which version you have, and save it in mht format with the same name as I saved the design. That way I don't have to print out a colour chart on paper unless I really want to and I have a copy of the colour-chart for each design I have downloaded on file.

Sometimes you just want to use the colors that the design just as you saw it online. Then, I too, was finding it a frustation to choose my own colors and not have it look just right. It'd take me way too long to get the colors so that it was acceptable, but really not as nice as I saw it online. So now I too use "save as," but a lot of sites can block that command. So I use the "snip it" tool that I have on win7. Before I had win7, I bought a program called "Gadwin PrintScreen Pro" that I bought online. So if I really want to reproduce the design in its orignal colors, I save a copy of its picture too.

I also used to save just the designs. Now I save designs that I really want more info with it in folders and store the picture, pdfs, and design on in the same folder.
