"Receiving blankets" seem to be 100cm x 75cm.

I think people tend to make what they have the materials for. I like to make my crib sized blankets 40-45" X 60" so using the full width of the material, this will allow the blanket to get many years of use. Newborn sized receiving blankets I use 36X 45 or 36X36 if I am short on material. For our grandson who was a micro preemie- under 2 lbs I started his little blankets at 24" square and the hospital NICU recommends 30 X 30 for the 3-5 lb preemies. Hope this helps. Pam

I love the way your answer starts ...what they have the materials for. I am using some small pieces of plush fabric and am using pieces 20x30 cm which is about 8x12" so currently me blanket is 60 cm by 90 cm now I need to ask myself do I need to make it bigger or just get it finished and make do or get some more fabric? Thanks for answering Pam &*4u
