I purchase prefolded diapers to make Burps. they are soft and absorbent, wash well over and over and easy to embroider They are pretty much the size needed. I fold in each side about 2 inches., sew down and then go from there. Check some done in projects are as advised already on the Internet and go from there with colors they are going to use or whatever you choose/Lillian

If you're in the USA, I buy terry newborn bibs at Walmart that have a plastic backing and with a little finesse fit the 4 x 4hoop. The plastic serves nicely as your stabilizer. I still think the nicest burps are made from birdseye cotton prefolded cloth diapers. Saw a beautiful diaper for a christening of a girl with large pale pink rose and her initials.

If you haven't found too many designs already Embroidery Library has a really cute one that looks like the stick on name tags you always get at meetings,etc. and it says,"Hi, I'm new here". That one always gets a smile.

one thing I make that everyone loves are changing pads. you can find the pattern at Embroidery Library for changing pads that fit in a diaper bag but I make mine much bigger. Mine are 24 wide by 30 long and are great to embroider on. I use quilting fabric that have different colors in blue and pink or white or off white. You can add a name or any design you want and put a backing on it. I use flannel for the backing.In between the back and front layers I put what is called black out lining and is waterproof so should a baby wet it doesn't go thru and wet the crib sheet or should you lay the pad on the couch. I like the bigger one and so do the people I make them for. use the pattern at Embroidery Library and make it the size you want. have fun. Roberta
