From reading Chris's posting saying she has had no power due to bad weather and flooding. Last year I was in a similar position without power due to very high winds, so what suggestions do you have for not being able to embroider in similar situations?

Keep in touch with some kind of handwork? Crewel, knitting, cross stitch... Reacquaint ourselves with the significant other, do that pesky seasonal cleaning for the last several seasons, grab a good book and soak your feet, hmmm! Oh, have a long talk with the cat.
It's amazing to me to think that only a little over 100 years ago, when night "fell", people blew out the candles and slept and rose again with the daybreak. Evening is my most productive time of day!

The evening is also the most productive time of day for me. The cat and I did enjoy the dark evenings we had and yes there was the opportunity to speak to the other half. Cleaning unless its dusting in the dark is minus a vacuum... anyway in the dark one doesn't notice dust and fluffy carpets

We light the lanterns (battery) and I do hand embroidery or read. My husband loves to treat situations like this as a practice to be prepared for a major hurricane. So I am happily amused watching him set up the battery and inverter to power up a few things like a laptop so we can watch a DVD. My heart goes out to all those affected by the bad weather. It is no fun to be without power and very scary to be watching flood waters rise.
